PUNE: Officers of the anti-extortion cell (AEC) of the Pune crime branch on Sunday arrested three people from Pimpri and seized CDs and DVDs worth Rs 26.48 lakh from them. The suspects have been identified as Guddukumar Panna Mishra (20), Mahendra Amararamji Kumbhar (20), both of Sindhi colony, Pimpri, and Sanju Pitambar Jadhav Bling Bling Pendants (30) from Waghire, Pimpri. Two suspects, Kumar Meghani and Sony Shaikh, managed to escape.

Investigations revealed that the suspects produced the pirated CDs and DVDs on a large-scale and sold it at the wholesale market in Pune. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by inspector Kishore Jadhav of the AEC, raided the spot in Sundhi colony at Pimpri on Sunday afternoon. The police have seized 8 DVD writers, 4,250 DVDs, 2,200 MP3s, 250 CDs, 300 blank CDs and Rs 20,400, totally valued at Rs 6.48 lakh, said inspector Jadhav.

In another incident, the Kothrud Manolo Blahnik Shoes Wholesale police on Saturday booked an assistant manager from a departmental store in Kothrud for allegedly downloading songs from various movies onto ipods and cell phones. The suspect has been identified as Hasnayan Khujema Lokhandwala (22) of Kondhwa. The police have seized a computer and an ipod from Lokhandwala. Sub-inspector A D Walimbe of the Kothrud police station is investigating the case.
